Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company


Tom Low, AIA, CNU, LEED, is the Director of
Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company's Charlotte, North Carolina office,
which he opened in 1995. Low has managed and completed over one hundred
projects over almost two decades with DPZ winning awards from the
American Institute of Architects, the Sierra Club, and the
Environmental Protection Agency for Smart Growth Achievement.
He is actively involved with projects, research, and education
throughout the Carolinas and lectures on town planning, early
twentieth-century planning history, sustainability and urbanism, and
school design. Since 2004, Low has been the Chair for the Charlotte Region
Civic by Design Forum, this includes leading forums on school design starting
the Katrina Inspired Learning Cottage Initiative.

Black, Associate AIA CNU
ICA & CA, has experience in town planning and traditional neighborhood
development, with a focus on Light Imprint urbanism. Prior to joining
DPZ, she was an architectural/historical consultant to the
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission. Additionally, she
taught architectural/historical courses at Central Piedmont and
Rowan-Cabarrus Community Colleges and was a consultant for several
entities including Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. She is active member
of the American Institute of Architects at state and local levels,
serving on the AIA North Carolina Historic Committee and on the Board of
Directors of AIA Charlotte for six years. Black is a founding board

Bowman, is an urban designer, and has experience in town planning and new urbanism. He has also worked on the furthering of the Light Imprint Initiative. Campbell, Operations Manager, has worked with the firm since
2007. Prior to coming to DPZ she worked in the non-profit sector of
Charlotte as Community Affairs Director and Director of Volunteer Services.
She had her own small business in the center city of Charlotte for many
years. Campbell attended Central Piedmont Community College and the
University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The North Carolina Association
of Women Attorneys presented Campbell with the Advancing the Rights of Women
Under the Law award in 1999 for advocating for many causes that affected

Pearlman began his work on the Griffin Park project
(a Light Imprint case study) immediately after joining DPZ in 2006.
Prior to his employment at DPZ, Pearlman was a Senior Landscape Architect
and Project Manager for Stantec Consulting Incorporated in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Pearlman is a Registered Landscape Architect holding licenses in both North and
South Carolina. He is an active member of professional planning organizations
such as the Urban Land Institute (chairing the Programs and Events Committee)
and the Congress for the New Urbanism (serving on the organizing Board of
